A New Approach to Remote Intelligent Circuit Breakers Control
Ali Öztürk, Malik Sağlam
Abstract
In this study, the remote control of circuit breakers which are on transformator or power distribution substation was carried out via Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) with mobile phones. We studied on this issue because there are not remote control systems via Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) in all of our power distribution systems. It seems almost impossible to have scada and remote control systems especially in rural areas due to the cabling and system costs. Nevertheless, it is of vital importance to cut the energy from the transformator or power line especially when we want to help for a problem or provide a maintenance service in a rural area. Thus, in this study, we developed a low-cost and practical solution only via GSM with mobile phones, which can be used in places where there is no scada and no possibility to control via the internet 3rd Generation (3G), General Packet Radio Service (GPRS). The reason why we have chosen “the control via GSM” is that 3G and GPRS connections have a smaller coverage area than an ordinary GSM signal does. As a result of examinations, it has been seen that a faster help over a problem can be provided by placing a remote control system on kesiciler. It has also been found that it helps provide an energy sustainability
